LATIN ROCK from AUSTIN, TEXAS

Alex Ruiz emerged in the Austin music scene as a founding member of Austin-based Del Castillo, a Latin Grammy-nominated rock group described by Rolling Stone as an 'eruption of technique and taste, conjuring images of Eddie Van Halen fronting early Santana (with an assist from the Gipsy Kings)'. Del Castillo was also known for frequent collaborations with filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, who included their music in films such as Once Upon A Time in Mexico, Machete, and Kill Bill. Ruiz has also appeared on-screen, with bit parts in Sin City and the recent television adaptation of From Dusk Til Dawn.

Del Castillo toured across the United States and Europe for the better part of a decade before hanging it up in 2014, but Ruiz has continued on, performing new material and songs he wrote with the band. In addition, he has also recently launched a carefully curated Gypsy Kings tribute show, periodically performing in and around Austin, which has drawn glowing praise and enthusiastic fans. He's also collaborated with Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Raulo Malo, and Los Lonely Boys.

Described by many as a Latino Steven Tyler, Alex’s live shows are legendary for being as dynamic and energetic as they are enigmatic and unique. Always a surprise, always fresh. His prowling the stage keeps audiences on the edge until the last note, leaving all waiting for the next time he and the band return.
